If a new skin growth appears suspicious during a dermatoscopic examination, surgical excision or biopsy is indicated. The diagnosis of new skin growths is based on optical dermatoscopy and the characteristic signs of tumors. The diagnosis can be confirmed and verified through postoperative histomorphological examination, i.e., further histological analysis of the excised material.
Histomorphological Examination is a microscopic examination method of biological tissues that involves studying individual structures that make up the cells and their combinations.
When routine histological testing is insufficient for diagnosis, immunohistochemistry is performed, considered an advanced form of histomorphological research. Typically, immunohistochemistry is not used initially.
